Originally scheduled for release in October 2024, the 1993 Japanese-Indian anime classic will now be hitting the big screen in Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu, all in stunning 4K.

The wait is indeed over, and fans are eagerly anticipating the remastered version, with the trailer scheduled to be released on January 10th. Geek Pictures India, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, and Anil Thadani’s AA Films are the distributors bringing this cinematic gem back to life.

The original 1993 anime adaptation was never released on the big screen, although it was screened at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). It gained a devoted fanbase during television reruns in the early 2000s.Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan, and Koichi Sasaki directed the film.
It’s important to note that this is not the only Ramayana adaptation in the works. Bollywood director Nitesh Tiwari is also working on a live-action adaptation starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash. This live-action version is expected to be released during Diwali in either 2026 or 2027.
