In an exciting step for academic and cultural exchange, 34 Indian students have been selected to participate in the Sakura Science Programme (SSP) 2025 in Japan. This prestigious initiative, launched by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), provides young minds from across the world with opportunities to experience Japan’s advancements in science, technology, and innovation.
The selected students, representing leading Indian universities and research institutions, will travel to Japan later this year. During the programme, they will engage in hands-on learning, research workshops, and cultural interactions designed to strengthen ties between India and Japan.
Sakura Science Programme 2025
The Sakura Science Programme, since its inception in 2014, has welcomed thousands of participants from Asia and beyond. It aims to nurture the next generation of global leaders by providing exposure to Japan’s cutting-edge research environment, while also fostering deeper friendship and understanding between nations.
Speaking on the selection, an official from JST highlighted:
“We are delighted to welcome students from India, a key partner in science and innovation. Their participation will not only enhance academic exchange but also create strong people-to-people connections.”
For Indian students, this is a valuable opportunity to gain international exposure, learn from top Japanese institutions, and explore potential avenues for future collaboration in fields like AI, robotics, clean energy, biotechnology, and space research.
The 2025 batch of Indian participants will also get a chance to visit renowned universities, research centers, and technology hubs across Japan. Apart from academic activities, the programme emphasizes cultural exchange—allowing students to experience Japanese traditions, food, and society firsthand.
India and Japan have steadily deepened cooperation in education, research, and technology. Programmes like Sakura Science serve as a bridge, ensuring that young scholars from both nations can contribute to global progress through knowledge-sharing and innovation.
With this year’s participation, India continues to be one of the most active contributors to the Sakura Science initiative, strengthening the vision of a future built on collaboration, curiosity, and cross-cultural understanding.
