Strong Earthquake Shakes Northern Japan
A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 struck off the coast of Hokkaido, northern Japan, on Saturday evening at approximately 11:28 PM local time. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has not issued a tsunami warning following the seismic event.
While there are no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties, local authorities are conducting assessments and inspections. As a precautionary measure, transportation services in the region were temporarily suspended but have since resumed normal operations.
Japan, situated in a region prone to earthquakes, regularly experiences seismic activity. Though this tremor was substantial, the absence of a tsunami threat has brought relief to residents.
