Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched the AWS Space Accelerator: APJ 2025, a powerful new initiative designed to support the next generation of space technology startups in Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ). With a focus on India, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, the 10-week accelerator aims to drive innovation, enable scalability, and empower startups to become key players in the rapidly expanding space economy.
Empowering the APJ Space Startup Ecosystem
Following the success of AWS Space Accelerator: India 2024, which supported 24 startups across diverse space domains, the new APJ-wide program significantly broadens the scope. Up to 40 space tech startups will be selected to participate in this accelerator, which offers:
Up to $100,000 in AWS credits through AWS Activate
Technical mentorship from AWS experts and partners
Business coaching from global space and tech leaders
Access to investors, industry experts, and potential customers
A demo day in December 2025 to showcase innovations
The program is open to startups at all stages of development in the space sector, and will be delivered through a hybrid model of virtual sessions and in-person opportunities starting September 2025.
A Regional Commitment to the Future of Space
AWS is partnering with leading organizations including:
T-Hub (India)
Minfy Technologies (India)
Fusic (Japan)
Ansys
Australian Space Agency
India’s IN-SPACe
iLAuNCH (Australia)
SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (Japan)
These collaborations ensure that the program remains locally rooted while offering access to global resources and networks.
“We’re not just supporting individual startups — we’re helping build a robust community that can drive economic growth and technological advancement throughout the region,” said Clint Crosier, Director of Aerospace and Satellite at AWS.
Focus Areas: Innovation with Impact
The AWS Space Accelerator: APJ 2025 is designed to nurture startups working on transformative space technologies across key focus areas:
Earth Observation & Remote Sensing
Using satellite imagery and sensor data to support climate monitoring, agriculture, disaster response, and infrastructure development.
Making space-derived data more accessible and actionable for decision-making.
Manufacturing, Launch & Operations
Innovating in satellite manufacturing, propulsion systems, and launch platforms to make space access more flexible, sustainable, and affordable.
Drone & High-Altitude Systems
Developing advanced drones and high-altitude platforms that work in tandem with satellites to improve data coverage and enable real-time applications in remote and underserved regions.
These categories are carefully chosen to align with pressing global challenges, such as climate resilience, space sustainability, and data democratization.
Building on 2024’s Momentum
The AWS Space Accelerator: India 2024 set the stage by supporting 24 companies across various domains such as:
Spacecraft propulsion
Orbital and launch vehicles
Geospatial applications
Space tourism
Quantum key distribution
Graduates from that program reported customer contracts, funding rounds, and breakthroughs in space tech — results that demonstrate the impact of AWS’s strategic investment in startup ecosystems.
An Expanding Market Opportunity
The Asia Pacific space economy is booming, with countries like India and Japan at the forefront:
India’s space sector is forecast to grow from $8 billion in 2022 to $44 billion by 2033.
Japan’s space economy, valued at $26 billion, is targeting $52 billion by the early 2030s.
However, the sector still faces high barriers to entry, including capital-intensive R&D, specialized talent requirements, and regulatory challenges. AWS’s accelerator helps startups reduce these risks by offering cloud-based infrastructure for rapid, low-cost experimentation and deployment.
Applications Now Open
Applications for AWS Space Accelerator: APJ 2025 opened on July 8, 2025, and will remain open until September 5, 2025. Startups from Australia, New Zealand, India, and Japan are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this rare opportunity to join a region-wide innovation network.
This program represents not just an investment in startups, but in the future of space technology across APJ — enabling breakthroughs that will define how the region contributes to global space, sustainability, and economic growth.
