Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has embarked on a week-long official visit to Japan, leading a high-level delegation aimed at strengthening economic partnerships and inviting greater Japanese investments in the northern Indian state. The visit, spanning from October 5 to 11, will include key meetings with Japanese government officials, industry leaders, and participation in the Global Investors’ Exhibition at the World Expo in Osaka.
Representatives from major Japanese companies operating in Haryana—such as Mitsui Kinzoku, ROKI UNO Minda, and RIL MET City—are part of this delegation, along with officials from the Foreign Cooperation Department and the Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC).
Showcasing Haryana’s Investment Potential
During the World Expo, Chief Minister Saini will inaugurate the Haryana Pavilion, highlighting the state’s strong industrial base, investor-friendly policies, and world-class infrastructure. The pavilion aims to attract Japanese businesses to explore new investment opportunities across sectors including automotive, electronics, software, renewable energy, and infrastructure.
Japan remains one of Haryana’s most significant foreign investors, accounting for nearly one-third of the state’s total foreign direct investment (FDI). Today, over 600 Japanese companies operate in Haryana’s industrial hubs—especially Gurugram, which has grown into a global business destination since the 1980s, driven by landmark investments such as those made by Maruti Suzuki.
New Industrial Cluster for Japanese Companies
One of the major proposals to be discussed during the visit is the creation of a dedicated industrial cluster for Japanese companies in Narayangarh, Ambala district—the Chief Minister’s home constituency. Strategically positioned with excellent connectivity to Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the proposed cluster is envisioned to become a hub for advanced manufacturing, logistics, and technology-driven industries.
Officials say the initiative aims to boost regional employment, enhance ease of doing business, and strengthen bilateral trade and technology cooperation.
Pre-Visit Consultations with Japanese Industry Leaders
Ahead of the trip, CM Saini met with senior executives of Japanese companies based in Gurugram to discuss the agenda for the Japan visit. Those present included:
- Goro Saway, Managing Director, ROKI UNO Minda
- Masato Kitamae, Managing Director, and Katsuhito Akaba, Director, Denso Haryana
- Vinay Dhingra, Senior Director, and Katsuyuki Ojawa, Director, Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India (HSMI)
- Yusuke Tabuchi, Director, Yokohama
- Hitetoh Yamada and June Sato, General Managers, Mitsui Kinzoku Components
These discussions underscored the shared vision of promoting innovation, sustainability, and workforce development through deeper India–Japan collaboration.
Focus on Technology and Skill Partnerships
Beyond investment promotion, the Haryana delegation will also engage with Japanese institutions on technology transfer, skill development, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Haryana aims to leverage Japan’s expertise in manufacturing automation, environmental management, and digital infrastructure to accelerate its own industrial transformation.
The state government’s long-term vision includes developing 10 industrial model townships by 2030, each integrated with smart technology, sustainable urban planning, and advanced logistics networks.
Strengthening Bilateral Economic Relations
Chief Minister Saini’s visit comes at a pivotal time, as India and Japan continue to expand their strategic and economic cooperation in response to shifting global trade and investment dynamics. For Japan, Haryana represents a stable and rapidly developing gateway to India’s vast consumer and manufacturing markets.
Officials from both sides express optimism that this visit will generate fresh momentum for joint ventures, supply chain collaborations, and green technology partnerships—areas where Japan’s expertise and Haryana’s industrial capabilities can strongly complement each other.
A Step Toward a Stronger Future
As Haryana positions itself as a leading industrial powerhouse within India, this visit reinforces the state’s commitment to creating a globally connected, innovation-driven economy. With proactive engagement from both Japanese and Indian stakeholders, the partnership is expected to pave the way for a new era of mutual growth, technological advancement, and sustainable industrial development.
As the week unfolds, the Haryana delegation’s engagements across Japan—from Osaka to Tokyo—are anticipated to strengthen ties, attract new investments, and further solidify the state’s global footprint in the Indo-Japanese economic corridor.
