The Embassy of India in Japan marked the festival of Raksha Bandhan by celebrating the values of protection, trust, gratitude, and human connection that the occasion represents. Led by Ambassador Nagma Mallick, the embassy team extended appreciation to individuals and organizations that support the Indian community and strengthen India–Japan relations.
Raksha Bandhan, derived from the words “Raksha” (protection) and “Bandhan” (bond), traditionally celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. During the festival, sisters tie a sacred rakhi on their brothers’ wrists, praying for their well-being, while brothers pledge to protect and support them.

The embassy highlighted that the spirit of Raksha Bandhan extends far beyond family relationships. Today, rakhis are often tied as symbols of trust and gratitude to people who protect, assist, and stand by others in society, including friends, soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and healthcare workers.
