The Indian delegation included Dr. Ashok Lahiri, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, along with Member Rajiv Gauba, Member Prof. Abhay Karandikar and CEO Anurag Jain.

The meeting focused on expanding business ties, encouraging long-term investment and identifying new opportunities for industrial collaboration between the two countries.

Japanese SMEs and Investment Opportunities in Focus

A key area of discussion was promoting Japanese investment in India, particularly from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Greater participation by Japanese businesses could help strengthen industrial supply chains, support local manufacturing and create new avenues for partnerships.

The discussions also covered industrial and technological upgrading, the expansion of downstream industries and stronger trade and investment connections.

Closer cooperation between Indian and Japanese companies could help businesses access new markets, exchange expertise and develop more resilient industrial networks.

Combining Japanese Technology with India’s Manufacturing Potential

The meeting highlighted opportunities to bring together Japan’s technological strengths and India’s expanding manufacturing capabilities under the vision of “Make in India, Make for the World.”

Technology transfer and industrial modernisation were key themes. The two sides also discussed developing Indian human resources and making effective use of their skills to support long-term industrial growth.

Greater collaboration between enterprises in both countries could encourage innovation, improve manufacturing capabilities and support the development of globally competitive products.

Strengthening Business and People-to-People Ties

Beyond investment and technology, the discussions highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between Indian and Japanese enterprises and stronger people-to-people exchanges.

Building relationships among businesses, professionals and skilled workers can help create a deeper understanding of each country’s industrial priorities and business environment.

The meeting underscored the value of a broad, multi-layered economic partnership that extends beyond trade to include skills development, innovation and long-term industrial cooperation.

Final Word

India and Japan continue to explore ways to strengthen their economic relationship through investment, technology sharing and industrial collaboration. Closer engagement between NITI Aayog and Japanese business organisations could help create new opportunities for companies in both countries while supporting India’s manufacturing ambitions and long-term economic growth.
