At Connect India Japan (CIG), we often receive messages from aspiring changemakers who are striving to create a better future. Today, we would like to share one such story — a deeply personal and inspiring letter from Mr. Awesh Kumar, a young Indian student who reached out to us with a heartfelt plea for support.
Awesh has been selected to attend the prestigious Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) Asia Conference 2025, scheduled from August 20–24, 2025, at the University of Tokyo.
This is a remarkable achievement — HPAIR is a global platform where emerging leaders gather to exchange ideas with academics, professionals, and world leaders. Being selected is no small feat. It reflects Awesh’s dedication, intellect, and ambition.
However, this moment of triumph comes amid great personal tragedy.
On July 1, 2025, Awesh lost his father to cancer. The emotional toll of the loss has been compounded by the financial strain caused by the long and costly treatment. Despite this, Awesh remains committed to growing, learning, and making a difference.
Now, he needs financial support to cover his travel and accommodation for the Tokyo conference.
“Attending HPAIR has been a dream,” Awesh writes. “It is not just a conference — it is a place where I can learn from world leaders and represent the hopes of Indian youth. Visiting Japan, a country I admire deeply, would be life-changing.”
He is requesting sponsorship or visa support from anyone who may be able to help.
