Former Chief of the Indian Navy, Admiral R. Hari Kumar, was honoured with one of Japan’s highest civilian awards, the “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star,” in a warm and dignified ceremony held in India.
The award was presented by the Japanese Ambassador on behalf of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan during a special reception marking Japan Self-Defense Forces Day 2025. The moment reflected deep mutual respect and friendship between the two nations.
Admiral Hari Kumar received this prestigious honour in recognition of his outstanding contribution to strengthening India–Japan defence cooperation, maritime security, and strategic ties during his tenure as Navy Chief. His leadership played a key role in enhancing trust, joint exercises, and collaboration between the Indian Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
The Order of the Rising Sun is one of Japan’s oldest and most respected decorations, awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to international relations and cooperation with Japan.
