India is set to highlight its vibrant and rapidly growing textile industry in Japan during a high-level ministerial visit from July 14 to 18, 2025. The key highlight of the visit will be a textile roadshow in Tokyo on July 15, hosted by the Embassy of India in Japan and led by H.E. Mr. Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of India.
The roadshow, organized in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, will be held at the prestigious Imperial Hotel, Tokyo (Peacock West, 2nd Floor) from 19:00 to 21:00 JST. The event promises to be an important platform for business leaders, investors, and industry experts from Japan to explore strategic collaborations and investment opportunities in India’s textile and apparel sector.
A Thriving Sector at the Heart of ‘Make in India’
India’s textile and apparel industry is currently valued at USD 184 billion, making it one of the largest and most dynamic sectors in the global textile market. With a rich heritage, abundant raw materials, and a skilled workforce, India is uniquely positioned to serve global markets.
The Government of India is actively pushing for international partnerships through flagship initiatives such as:
- PM MITRA Parks (Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Parks)
- PLI Scheme (Production-Linked Incentive) for textiles
- Robust trade and investment policies
These programs aim to enhance India’s manufacturing capacity, improve supply chain infrastructure, and create an ecosystem that is both investor-friendly and globally competitive.
India-Japan Collaboration: A Natural Fit
India and Japan share a long-standing relationship based on mutual respect, economic cooperation, and shared goals. In recent years, both countries have shown interest in deepening collaboration across key sectors including manufacturing, innovation, and trade.
Japan’s advanced textile technology, combined with India’s scale, market, and manpower, offers significant potential for synergistic growth. The upcoming roadshow aims to catalyze joint ventures, research partnerships, and technology transfers that will benefit both nations.
