In a significant step toward deepening bilateral cooperation in advanced technology, India’s Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, along with Consul General of India in Fukuoka, Ramkumar C, visited Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation in Nagasaki.
The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Yamaguchi Yoshihiro, CEO of Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation. During the visit, both sides engaged in discussions focused on India–Japan collaboration in semiconductor manufacturing and cutting-edge technology development.
Ambassador George highlighted India’s rapidly growing role in the global electronics and semiconductor value chain, emphasizing the country’s policy initiatives to promote semiconductor fabrication, chip design, and advanced packaging. He also underlined the importance of partnering with Japan, a world leader in precision engineering, materials technology, and semiconductor innovation.
Mr. Yamaguchi Yoshihiro expressed Sony Semiconductor’s interest in exploring opportunities for joint research, skill development, and investment in India’s technology sector. He praised the potential for synergy between Japan’s expertise in high-end semiconductor manufacturing and India’s strengths in talent, software, and large-scale manufacturing capacity.
The visit comes amid a global push for supply chain diversification in semiconductors — a sector that is critical for electronics, communications, automotive, and emerging technologies such as AI, 5G, and IoT. Strengthening India-Japan cooperation in this field is expected to contribute to resilient, secure, and innovation-driven supply chains.
This engagement is part of ongoing efforts by both nations to expand their Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with technology collaboration at its core.
