Haryana is set to become home to India’s first-ever Disneyland-style theme park. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently revealed plans for a massive 500-acre entertainment project near Manesar, strategically located along the KMP Expressway and the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor. Though The Walt Disney Company has not yet confirmed involvement, this grand initiative signals a new chapter in India’s tourism landscape.
A Global-Scale Park in India
The new theme park aims to match the global standards of Disneyland parks in cities like Paris, Tokyo, California, and Shanghai. Haryana officials have already begun groundwork, even as Disney’s formal participation remains pending. The project, positioned just minutes from Delhi and Gurugram, promises easy connectivity for both domestic and international tourists.
“This is more than just entertainment,” said CM Saini during a press conference with Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. “It’s a catalytic investment that will redefine the region’s identity and deliver long-term gains in tourism, real estate, and employment.”
Economic and Cultural Boost for Haryana
The park is expected to create thousands of jobs—both directly and indirectly—while giving a major boost to local businesses, infrastructure, and the hospitality sector. Its location near Gurugram’s corporate zone and the upcoming 1,000-acre Global City adds further value, potentially turning Manesar into a tourism and commercial powerhouse.
To complement the modern entertainment hub, the Haryana government also plans to expand its cultural events. The famous Surajkund Crafts Mela will be held three times a year, with new editions like a Diwali Fair and a government-organized Book Fair. The International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra is also set for an upgrade.
A Balanced Development Strategy
The announcement also brings back memories of a failed attempt in 1989, when a 28,000-acre theme park proposal was shelved due to farmer protests. This time, BJP leaders are emphasizing a more transparent and consensual approach.
“This project is on a smaller scale and respects landowners’ rights,” said BJP spokesperson Arun Yadav. However, INLD leader Abhay Chautala criticized the move, calling it politically inconsistent with past actions.
Will It Be a Real Disneyland?
As of now, Disney has not confirmed any official collaboration. The Haryana government is describing the upcoming park as “Disneyland-style,” meaning it could be inspired by Disney’s themes and operational models, but may not carry the Disney brand—at least not yet.
What Lies Ahead
Regardless of Disney’s direct involvement, the intent is clear: India is ready to bridge its long-standing gap in global entertainment. With the Manesar project, the state is building a space where thrilling rides meet traditional culture—a tourism experience like no other in the country.
