Indo Beats: Promoting Indian Music in the Heart of Tokyo

Indo Beats, a vibrant music group established in 2022 by Sanjib Swain and Choudhury Mohanty, is dedicated to bringing the rich tapestry of Indian music to Japanese audiences. With a mission to celebrate diversity, the group features 12 talented singers representing various cultural and linguistic backgrounds within India.

Their journey began in 2022 with a mere four music enthusiasts. Their passion quickly ignited, culminating in their first successful show in October of that year. Since then, Indo Beats has become a familiar and beloved name among music lovers, particularly the Indian community, in Tokyo. Their dedication is evident through their consistent participation in Indian community events and collaborations with various event groups in the city. Notably, the group has garnered recognition from the Odisha and Japan Bengali communities.

To keep the flame of their passion alive amidst their busy schedules, Indo Beats holds monthly meet-ups for practice and team building.

A Memorable “Sitaron Ki Mehfil”

On August 24th, 2024, Indo Beats hosted a captivating event titled “Sitaron Ki Mehfil” (An Evening of Stars), inviting music lovers to fall in love with Indian music. The event, held at the Funabori Tower Hall, was graced by the presence of esteemed guests: Mr. Chandrani (Renowned Indian), Ms. Nupur Tewari (Senior Journalist/ CEO and Founder Connect India Japan),  Mr. Anil Raj (Owner,Nirvana), Mr. Nitin Hingarh  (President, Ambika Corporation),  and Ms. Vinitha (Music Teacher), Mr. Yogendra Puranik (Principal of Tsuchiura First High School ), Mr Anand Vijay Singh (Director Ahilya Enterprises )

The evening revolved around the enchanting theme of “Sitaron Ki Mehfil,” transporting the audience to an unforgettable musical journey. The talented singers, including, Ms. Rimjhim Mohanty ( anchor )  Sanjib Choudhury, Deepanwita, Swetalin, Suraj, Kalaswan, Sathis, Gita,Shweta, Shabil, Subhra, Chaya, guest singer Savani (performing the “Heera Mandi” song), and the Russian vocalist Stevlana (performing Jimmy Jimmy songs), captivated the audience with a diverse repertoire. The musical selection ranged from popular Bollywood hits like “Mere Dholna” and “Ek Haseena Thi” to captivating Tamil and Malayalam dance songs. Additionally, the group delivered mesmerizing medleys such as “Huma Huma” (Hindi-Tamil mix) and “Humari Adhoori Kahani” (Hindi-Bengali mix), showcasing the rich tapestry of Indian musical styles.

Indo Beats’ dedication to promoting Indian music in Japan is truly commendable. Their success in captivating audiences and fostering cultural exchange is a testament to their talent and passion. This vibrant group promises to continue enthralling music lovers in Tokyo with their exceptional performances and commitment to celebrating Indian music’s diversity.
