Prabhas, the pan-Indian superstar, is making waves yet again, this time on the international stage. His latest action-packed flick, “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire,” has roared into Japanese theaters, securing the third-biggest opening weekend for an
Indian film in the country’s history.
The Prashanth Neel-directed film, which released in India last December to immense commercial success, debuted in Japan on July 5th. According to reports, “Salaar” raked in a whopping JPY 18.22 million (approximately USD 113,000) in its opening week, playing across nearly 200 locations.
This impressive feat places “Salaar” behind only the mega-hits “RRR” (JPY 45 million) and “Saaho” (JPY 23 million) in terms of opening weekend collections for Indian films in Japan. The strong showing reflects Prabhas’ growing international fanbase and the increasing popularity of Indian cinema in the Japanese market.
“Salaar,” touted as a high-octane action extravaganza, follows the story of a valiant leader named Lean (played by Prabhas) amidst a violent conflict. The film’s slick action sequences, powerful performances, and larger-than-life storytelling seem to have resonated with Japanese audiences.
This news comes as a welcome sign for the Indian film industry, signifying its growing global reach. Prabhas’ “Salaar” is not only entertaining domestic audiences but also finding a dedicated fanbase overseas, particularly in Japan.
