In a bold move that signals a transformative shift in its long-term strategy, Suzuki Motor Corporation is stepping beyond its traditional automotive business to build a new pillar focused on micro e-mobility infrastructure in India.
At the center of this initiative is the Versatile micro e-Mobility Platform (VmeM), a next-generation solution designed to redefine efficiency across industries such as logistics, solar energy, airports, and urban infrastructure. Unlike conventional product launches, this initiative is envisioned as a full-scale industrial ecosystem one that integrates hardware, innovation, and collaboration.
With over 40 years of experience in electric mobility research and development, Suzuki’s latest initiative is not about introducing another vehicle, but about solving systemic inefficiencies at scale. The VmeM platform aims to support India’s evolving industrial landscape by enabling smarter, cleaner, and more efficient mobility solutions.
This aligns with India’s broader economic ambition of accelerating growth from 6% to 10% GDP, contributing to the national vision of a developed economy.
Driving this transformation is the Suzuki Micro e-Mobility Innovation Lab for Ecosystem (SMILE Lab), based in Gandhinagar. The lab serves as a collaborative platform where startups, MSMEs, engineers, and industry experts come together to co-create solutions.
Working alongside institutions such as the International Automobile Centre of Excellence, the initiative fosters a culture of experimentation and innovation. It encourages stakeholders across sectors to contribute ideas and develop scalable solutions that no single entity could build independently.
The micro e-mobility push is rooted in collaboration. From engineers and robotics enthusiasts to startup founders and industrial partners, the ecosystem is designed to bring diverse expertise under one roof.
The initiative also reflects the spirit of “Yaramaika” a philosophy that translates to “Let’s Try” which has driven teams at Suzuki R&D Center India Private Limited to push boundaries and pursue ambitious goals despite challenges and uncertainties.
According to Suzuki’s mid-term vision, micro e-mobility is set to become a core business pillar alongside its established automotive operations by 2040. This marks a significant evolution in the company’s global strategy, positioning India as a key hub for innovation and implementation.
As the journey begins from Gandhinagar, the initiative represents more than technological advancement it is a shift toward building industrial efficiency and quality at scale. By addressing gaps in infrastructure and operations, Suzuki aims to play a crucial role in shaping the future of mobility and industry in India.
With the launch of the SMILE Lab and the VmeM platform, Suzuki is not just introducing a new solution it is opening the first chapter of a collaborative, future-ready ecosystem designed to power India’s next phase of growth.
