India continued their dominance in the Asian Champions Trophy Hockey 2024, defeating Japan 5-1 in their final group stage match on Tuesday. The win ensured India’s top spot in the tournament and a place in the final.
The match was a one-sided affair from the start, with India dominating possession and creating numerous scoring chances. India opened the scoring in the 10th minute through a penalty corner conversion by Harmanpreet Singh. The Indian captain added another goal in the 18th minute to give India a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Japan pulled one goal back in the 44th minute through a field goal by Kenta Tanaka. However, India responded quickly,with Gurjant Singh scoring two goals in quick succession to extend India’s lead to 4-1. Harmanpreet Singh completed his hat-trick in the 51st minute to seal India’s victory.
The win means that India have won all three of their matches in the tournament so far, scoring 15 goals and conceding just 2. They will now face Malaysia in the final on Thursday.
