The much-anticipated India-made Suzuki Jimny 5-door is all set to make its debut in Japan in the coming days. Manufactured exclusively in India, this version of the iconic off-roader will be called the Suzuki Jimny NOMADE in the Japanese market.
Jimny 5-Door: Expanding Its Global Footprint
The Suzuki Jimny has long been a cult favorite among off-road enthusiasts. While Japan and Europe have traditionally received the 3-door Jimny, the 5-door version, which was launched in India in June 2023, has gained immense popularity. Now, with the Jimny NOMADE making its way to Japan, it marks a significant milestone for India’s automotive manufacturing sector.
A recently leaked image on the internet reveals the 5-door Jimny in a striking dual-tone Sizzling Red Metallic color with a black roof. The image also confirms the “NOMADE” badging on the front bumper, distinguishing it from its Indian counterpart.
Manufacturing & Bookings in Japan
The 3-door Jimny continues to be built at Suzuki’s Kosai-based plant in Japan, while the 5-door Jimny is exclusively manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s facility in Gurgaon, India. Reports indicate that the first shipment of the Jimny NOMADE has already reached Japan, and the official launch is expected on January 30, 2025.
With bookings for the Jimny NOMADE already open in Japan, it is expected to generate strong interest among adventure and off-road enthusiasts.
Key Features & Specifications
The Japan-spec Jimny NOMADE will remain largely similar to the India-spec 5-door Jimny. The main differences are expected to be in badging and minor cosmetic tweaks, but the overall design, engine, and features will likely stay the same.
In India, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is available in two trims, Zeta and Alpha, with prices ranging from ₹12.74 lakh to ₹15 lakh (ex-showroom). The 5-door Jimny is powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It also comes equipped with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4×4 system, making it a capable off-roader.
India’s Growing Role in Suzuki’s Global Supply Chain
The Jimny NOMADE will be the second made-in-India Suzuki vehicle to be exported to Japan, following the Fronx, which was launched last year. This reflects Suzuki’s growing confidence in India’s manufacturing capabilities and highlights Maruti Suzuki’s importance in Suzuki’s global operations.
With its rugged design, compact dimensions, and off-road prowess, the Jimny 5-door is expected to make a strong impact in the Japanese market, offering a practical alternative to the 3-door version while retaining its adventure-ready DNA.
