The India Pavilion – Bharat welcomed H.E. Mr. Koichi Shiota, Hon’ble Governor of Kagoshima Prefecture, during his visit to Expo 2025 Osaka, where he was given a glimpse of India’s diverse cultural tapestry.
At the Assam State Zone inside the pavilion, the spotlight was on the Mekhela Chador, Assam’s iconic traditional attire. The two-piece ensemble, comprising the cylindrical Mekhela and the draped Chador, is handwoven in Assam’s famed silks – Muga, Pat, and Eri. Adorned with intricate motifs of flowers, birds, creepers, and traditional symbols such as the jaapi and xorai, the dress reflects the state’s rich handloom heritage.
Visitors were equally mesmerized by a vibrant performance of the Bhortal dance, a traditional group dance from Assam that combines rhythmic footwork with the beats of cymbals. The lively performance brought the festive spirit of Assam to the global stage, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The display of Assam’s cultural treasures at the India Pavilion underlines the country’s rich diversity and heritage, leaving an indelible impression on global visitors at Expo 2025 Osaka.
