Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan are in the United Kingdom for a special 3-day trip. King Charles III invited them for this state visit.
The Japanese royal couple arrived on Tuesday. They were greeted by Prince William and his wife Catherine at a London hotel.
On Wednesday, King Charles and Queen Camilla officially welcomed the Emperor and Empress at Horse Guards Parade in London. There was a big ceremony with soldiers, horses, and music.
Later, the royal guests rode in carriages to Buckingham Palace. They had lunch with King Charles and other members of the British royal family.
In the evening, there will be a fancy dinner at the palace. Both Emperor Naruhito and King Charles will give speeches.
During their visit, the Emperor and Empress will also meet the Prime Minister and visit some important places in London.
This trip is meant to strengthen the good relationship between Japan and the United Kingdom. It’s the first state visit to the UK by a Japanese Emperor since 1998.
