The initiative was launched globally in 2025 through collaboration between India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of External Affairs. Community runs were organised in cities around the world, including Tokyo.
The programme aims to bring together Indians living abroad, local communities, students, professionals and friends of India around the broader vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
Beyond being a fitness activity, the run provides an opportunity for members of the Indian diaspora to come together and participate in a community event.
The 2025 global edition also included activities such as the Viksit Bharat Pledge, Aatmanirbhar Bharat Pledge and environmental initiatives.
The Tokyo event similarly provides a platform for community participation around the theme of service and India’s development vision.
1. Bringing the Indian Community Together
The event provides an opportunity for Indians living in Japan to participate in a shared community activity.
2. Connecting Fitness With Service
The “Run to Serve the Nation” theme combines physical activity with the broader idea of community participation and service.
3. Strengthening Community Engagement in Japan
Events organised by Indian missions abroad can also create opportunities for interaction among the diaspora, local communities and friends of India.
4. Tokyo Joins a Global Initiative
Tokyo was among the cities that hosted the Viksit Bharat Run during its 2025 global edition, making the September 2026 event part of an initiative with an international footprint.
Those wishing to participate in the September 26 Viksit Bharat Run in Tokyo have been invited by the Embassy of India to register through the registration form shared for the event.
Participants are advised to arrive at Ōjima-Komatsugawa Park ahead of the 8:00 AM start.
The Viksit Bharat Run 2026 in Tokyo will bring together members of India’s community in Japan for a morning centred on fitness, togetherness and the spirit of service.
With the event taking place at Ōjima-Komatsugawa Park on September 26, the Embassy of India is inviting the community to take part and be part of the “Run to Serve the Nation”initiative.
