The Malabar series of exercises has been conducted annually since 1992, with Australia joining in 2007 and Japan in 2008. The exercise is a testament to the growing strategic partnership between these countries, often referred to as the “Quad.”

Malabar 2024 will feature a wide range of naval activities, including anti-submarine warfare, air defense exercises, and maritime interdiction operations. The exercise will provide an opportunity for the participating navies to enhance their interoperability and coordination.

The Malabar series of exercises has taken on added significance in recent years amid growing concerns over China’s military expansion in the Indo-Pacific region. The Quad countries have been working together to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific, based on the rule of law.

Malabar 2024 is expected to send a strong message to China and other potential adversaries that the Quad countries are committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
