Two years after their visit, in 2009, Miyako and Robert got married. They eventually settled in Japan and built a life together.
But their connection to Bageshwar remained.

In 2022, Robert passed away following a prolonged illness.
His death marked a difficult chapter for Miyako, but one wish remained close to her heart.
Robert had always maintained a deep connection with Bageshwar, and his final wish was for his ashes to be immersed in the Saryu River.
It was a promise Miyako intended to keep.
Four years after Robert’s death, in 2026, Miyako travelled from Japan back to Bageshwar.
Her journey was not simply a return to a place she had visited nearly two decades earlier. It was a journey to honour her husband’s memory and fulfil a promise that had remained with her through the years.
Returning to the Himalayan town allowed Miyako to reconnect with the landscape that had once meant so much to both of them.
