Japan to Welcome 22 Assistant Language Teachers from India Under JET Programme

Japan is set to welcome 22 Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and four Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) from India this year under the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, further strengthening educational and cultural ties between the two countries. A send-off ceremony for the selected participants was held at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi ahead of their departure.

This marks the second consecutive year of regular dispatches of Assistant Language Teachers from India under the Japanese government-backed programme, reflecting the growing partnership between India and Japan in education and people-to-people exchanges.

Strengthening Educational and Cultural Exchange

The selected participants will be posted across 17 prefectures, including HokkaidoTokyo, and Kumamoto, where they will work in schools and local government offices for up to five years. Their responsibilities will include supporting English language education, promoting cross-cultural understanding, and participating in community exchange activities.

At the send-off event, Purvasri Das, who will serve as an Assistant Language Teacher in Tokyo, said she hopes to go beyond teaching English and become a meaningful bridge between India and Japan. Joshi Supriya, who will be posted as a Coordinator for International Relations in Hidaka, Hokkaido, expressed her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and making every interaction a valuable cultural exchange.
