What is the MEXT Scholarship?

Program Details
1. Undergraduate Students Program
- Duration: 5 years (4 years of study + 1 year of language training)
- Degree Awarded: Bachelor’s Degree
- Fields of Study: Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, etc.
2. National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) Program
- Duration: 4 years (3 years of technical education + 1 year of language training)
- Focus: Engineering and technical fields with a hands-on, practical approach
- Degree Awarded: Associate Degree
3. Specialized Training College Program
- Duration: 3 years (2 years of vocational training + 1 year of language training)
- Focus: Practical training in fields like fashion, animation, business, tech, and healthcare
- Degree Awarded: Certificate from a vocational college
Scholarship Benefits
The MEXT Scholarship is fully funded and includes:
- Monthly Stipend: ¥117,000 (approx. ₹68,800)
- Full Tuition Coverage: Includes admission, exam, and tuition fees
- Round-Trip Flight Tickets: To and from Japan
- Japanese Language Training: 1 year at a language school in Japan
Who Can Apply?
- Must be an Indian citizen
- Age: Generally under 25 for undergraduate programs
- Academic qualifications: Varies by program, but strong academic performance is a must
- Willingness to learn Japanese and adapt to life in Japan
Each year, around 12 Indian candidates per program are nominated to MEXT, but the final selection is made by the Japanese government in competition with global applicants.
