Tokyo, May 8 – In response to growing tensions between India and Pakistan following a recent terrorist attack in Kashmir, Japanese Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi issued an official statement on May 7 calling for calm and diplomatic dialogue to avoid further conflict.

Terrorist Attack in Kashmir: Japan Expresses Deep Concern
The statement follows India’s announcement that it conducted military strikes against terrorist facilities in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Kashmir. Japan strongly condemned the incident, reaffirming its firm stance against terrorism. “Japan once again strongly condemns such terrorist acts,” said Minister Iwaya, expressing solidarity with the victims and a clear opposition to any form of extremist violence.
However, Japan also voiced grave concerns about the potential for the situation to spiral into a broader conflict. “Japan is deeply concerned that the recent series of events could lead to further reprisals and escalate into a full-scale military conflict,” the Foreign Minister stated.
In light of these developments, Japan issued a strong appeal for restraint, urging both India and Pakistan to avoid escalation and instead pursue peaceful dialogue. “Japan strongly urges both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and stabilize the situation through dialogue for the peace and stability in South Asia,” the statement emphasized.
Japan also assured that it is taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of its citizens in the region. “Japan will continue to monitor the situation closely while taking all possible measures to protect Japanese nationals abroad,” Minister Iwaya concluded.
The statement highlights Japan’s consistent foreign policy approach—condemning terrorism while promoting peace, stability, and diplomatic solutions in global conflict zones. As the situation in Kashmir unfolds, Japan’s message serves as a timely reminder of the international community’s role in encouraging de-escalation and dialogue.
